About Us

My husband and I taught English as volunteers in Tanzania through the Tanzania Teaching Foundation in 2019. I returned to the States totally in love, not only with the English program and its positive impact on education in this developing country, but also with the children and the people of the small remote village in which we taught.  I have been on the board as a member for seven years; the past three I have served as the president of the Board of Directors. 

Karen Barale

Supporting education has been a lifelong passion. As a retired Washington State University professor, I have witnessed firsthand how education and encouragement can improve the lives of individuals, families, and communities.  I support TTF as the Board secretary, bringing organizational, curriculum, and grant skills to my position. In addition, I serve as the liaison to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Olympia, Washington, where TTF is a ministry partner. 

Lucy Winter

I was fortunate enough to volunteer in Manow twice. This allowed me to build genuine relationships and to understand the impact of investing in students over the long term. I joined the Tanzania Teaching Foundation Board to help ensure more young people have access to life-changing educational opportunities while supporting the organization’s long-term sustainability. As Board Treasurer, I bring a commitment to responsible financial stewardship and a deep belief in TTF’s mission to partner with Tanzanian communities to create lasting change.

Stacy Douglas

I joined the Tanzania Teaching Foundation after seeing firsthand how education can transform lives and strengthen entire communities. Through more than 25 years of work in the United States, the United Kingdom, Zambia, and Tanzania, I have led initiatives in teacher development, curriculum design, school leadership, and nonprofit management. As the executive director for TTF, I am committed to working alongside our Tanzanian partners to create sustainable educational opportunities that empower students, support educators, and strengthen communities for generations to come.
